The taxi driver pointed to the piazza near our apartment and said, "Pickpocket. Attenta!" (pay attention!)
I have been super worried about that. Allen got me this great cross body bag that has eased my mind a bit. It has multiple pockets with zippers, and even an RFID lining so hackers can't swipe your credit card info while they walk past you. I took it next level and added another vertical strap around the whole thing so they can't just easily bump into me and unzip anything. The strap covers the zippers. I sewed the strap in place on the bottom of the bag so when I open it the strap doesn't fall off. I can secure my keys on a carabiner inside the front pocket (can you believe my airbnb uses an actual chiave (key)?
I have heard when we are on the busses and trains to look out for groups of young women. They work together to distract you while another makes their move. Pickpockets can dress nicely and strike up friendly conversations so you lower your guard.
It was very helpful at the airport too because you constantly have to be getting out important things like passports and boarding passes, and keep track of baggage tickets, but then you have to hurry and put it all away while loading everything on and off security checks. It's an easy place to lose things. It was all so much easier with this handy bag.
Another thing I was worried about was having my phone in my hand while I navigate around the city and busses. I put a strap on my phone case so I can put the strap around my wrist, making it harder for someone to grab it.
And, another thing I did was bring one of my old phones in case I do lose this one...
